So What Now?

So what is the purpose of this blog? We decided for our community outreach activity we would show the community that there are entrepreneurs everywhere we look. Businesses across Albuquerque were started by an idea of some form and that lead to a start of something big! So for the next few months we are going to interview some amazing individuals who we believe have made a huge impact in the great city of Albuquerque.

Our Students #GetPassionate About Entrepreneurship

To promote entrepreneurship to our students we decided to host an assembly on November 25th  for all DECA students. We had two main speakers that we thought were the true definition of an entrepreneur. Marc Busko is a motivational speaker out of Wisconsin who we invited to come speak to these students. We also had Tim Harris come talk to the kids about how he defeated the odds and started his own restaurant even with down syndrome. Both of these speakers had extreme passion for what they do and they really came across to the students.

After all of the preparation the big day finally came and it was a huge success! We had over 250 students come and watch as we promoted entrepreneurship and shared many inspiring stories of people who make differences in their community. After the assembly the room was full of applause and so many of these kids came to talk about how this was so inspirational and that they now know that they too can achieve their dreams.

Students came up to the banner that said, "Who Can Be An Entrepreneur?" and put their handprint on the poster. This was huge for our project because students were able to realize that their ideas matter and that they can make a difference if they just put their minds to it! We then hung it on the wall for our assembly and it really just put the whole puzzle together which was great!

DECA and our Project!

DECA is a marketing class that teaches students about finance, tourism, marketing, and entrepreneurship. For us, DECA was our inspiration to continue onto business after high school. Each year students are to enroll in a project category that they believe bests fits him/her. Students will either be tested or they will have to present to a group of judges about their ideas or what they accomplished during this first semester period. We as partners felt extremely passionate about entrepreneurship and so we enrolled in the Entrepreneurship Promotion Project. Our task is to promote the benefits of entrepreneurship to our chapter and to the community. We were so excited and started working immediately on ideas to make this activity count! DECA has motivated so many students to make their years count in high school and both of our lives have changed because of this outstanding program!

A little bit about us....

Hello,
My name is Steven Hathoot and I go to La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am currently a senior and I look forward to what's to come next after high school. I was a varsity starter on the football team for two years and had an absolute blast. I am also the DECA Chapter President and the Senior class V.P. Business and entrepreneurship are my passions and that is partly why my partner Maddie Redmond and I decided to open up this blog so we could share with the community the great ideas that come from Albuquerque. I believe the key to success is to be motivated and extremely passionate so that there is little room for disappointment!
